Sub Genres of Drama

Comedy
Mixing drama and comedy, a 'Dramedy' film gives the audience an almost equal balance of serious and realistic occurrences, with comedic relief, taking the weight of anything that happens in the film off of the shoulders of the audience.

Documentation
A Docudrama is a dramatised piece based on real events. It helps to create a more realistic feel to the film/television series, having a greater relevance to the audience, and possibly a more relatable plot.

Historical
Similarly to a docudrama, this contains realistic themes, however it does not have to be. This genre is set in a different period of time, and will include references to that specific time period.

Supernatural
By mixing drama and supernatural themes, it allows the audience to feel immersed into a strange world, with a balanced amount of reality and unrealistic elements. It allows the producer to bend truths and mess with reality, with it still fitting the storyline and the dramatic themes.

Tragic
To get the full effect, this sub genre is based mainly on the characters involved. The protagonist will be brought to ruin because of an event that occurs in the film, such as great loss, facing weaknesses or not being able to cope in an infamous circumstance.

Romantic

Exploring the complex side of love, Romantic Drama's go through a range of themes, from tragic love, to love at first sight, and tackle sexual, platonic and passionate love, creating explosive twists and plots.
