Because 'Psychological Thriller' is already a sub-genre of Thriller, I saw it fitting to research other sub-genres of Thriller, to compare and contrast both the general plots and the similarities between these sub-genres and the sub-genres of Drama.
Psychological
In Psychological Thrillers, the conflict between the main characters is mental and emotional, rather than physical. They are dragged into danger through curiosity or an accident, and are forced to use their mind to overcome the obstacles they are faced with.
Comedy
Equally balances out the suspense with light comedy, causing the audience to go through a roller-coaster of emotions. Also tends to take the seriousness away from the situation that has emerged.
Supernatural
Contains otherworldly elements and aims to make the most unrealistic occurrences seem possible. The protagonist or Villain can have some sort of superpower, or physical ability, that leads to and/or creates a solution to a whirlwind of problems.
Conspiracy
The protagonists of conspiracy thrillers are often journalists or amateur investigators who find themselves pulling on a small thread which unravels a vast conspiracy that is ultimately addressed by a higher authority. The development is situated mainly around the discovery.
Crime
Often focusing on the criminal rather than the police, crime dramas contain realistic and extreme cases of murder, kidnap, drug abuse or any form of crime and address the justification. Digging into the criminals mind helps to create an interesting plot and an understanding of mental disorders.
